United Federation of Teachers Finds Way to Deliver 5,000 Meals/Week During Period of High Need
With food banks running low, the union launches projects to seek community help.
With food banks and soup kitchens across the city running low on supplies, the United Federation of Teachers has launched a project to supply community food banks with 5,000 meals a week for the next month. The UFT will buy meals from local restaurants, which will then cook, pack and deliver the meals to in-need local food pantries. On Friday, Dec. 18, food pantries at PS 55 and PS 83 — both in the Bronx, the latter a UCS school — each received 250 cooked meals for their school communities from Caridad Restaurant and Ravioli Fair Restaurant, respectively, to kick off the project.
