Huge kudos to Community School Director Nubany Perez for her incredible heart and swift action at the International School for Liberal Arts (ISLA) in the Bronx! On Jan. 27, an ISLA family of five lost their home to a fire. Nubany immediately stepped in, coordinating with the Red Cross for housing and providing MetroCards so the parents wouldn’t miss work. She coordinated with Follow Us to Success and Caridad Restaurant to provide meals, and she secured toys and laundry cards through the school’s family engagement center to help the children feel settled. Nubany’s dedication is a beautiful example of the United Community Schools model in action, ensuring no family has to face a tragedy alone.
